SEND Advisory Teachers (SENDATs)

There are 4 SEND Advisory Teachers (SENDATs) who work directly with Special Educational Needs Co-ordinators (SENCO’s) in Central Bedfordshire to look at provision in schools and that schools are meeting statutory requirements.

 Activities in support of schools. SENCO Advice for:

  • General support and guidance
  • Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) Needs Assessment applications
  • Annual reviews
  • Improvements which could be made at review meetings (Enhance led)
  • Completion of the annual review calendar for each setting
  • Support around funding issues
  • SEND part-time timetables in schools
  • SEND pupils and Fixed Term Exclusion numbers
  • Review progress of SEND pupils
  • Quality assurance of schools action towards EHCP outcomes
  • Auditing of Alternative Resource Provision (ARP) curriculum and quality
  • Action following refusal of a special school place
  • Attendance at selected annual reviews
  • School place transfer (Years 4/8 & 11)
  • Understanding the legal position around refusal of place

 Activities in support of Central Bedfordshire Council's initiatives:

  • Risk ratings for schools (RAG)
  • Single point of contact for SENCOs
  • Supporting SIA SEND aspects of deep dives
  • Support for CBC initiatives
  • Joining way forward meetings
  • Reviewing complaints from parents in respect of EHCP’s/Schools
  • Alternative provider visits/QA
