SEND Advisory Teachers (SENDATs)

There are 5 SEND Advisory Teachers (SENDATs) who work directly with Special Educational Needs Co-ordinators (SENCO’s) in Central Bedfordshire to look at provision in schools and ensure that schools are meeting statutory requirements.

 Activities in support of schools and advice:

  • for Education, Health and Care Needs Assessment requests 
  • to ensure good annual reviews
  • of Completion of the annual review calendar for each setting
  • for funding 
  • around part-time timetables and alternative provision for children with an EHCP
  • regarding suspensions for children with an EHCP
  • how to effectively review the progress of children with SEND through good assess, plan, do, review processes
  • through quality assurance of school's actions towards EHCP outcomes
  • through the auditing of Alternative Resource Provisions (ARP) 
  • following the refusal of a special school place and understanding the legal position of the local authority in regard of the Code of Practice
  • regarding school place transfer (Years 4/6/8 & 11)

 Activities in support of Central Bedfordshire Council's initiatives:

  • risk ratings for schools (RAG) and support to create SEND action plans
  • single point of contact for SENCOs for support and advice
  • supporting School Improvement Advisors (SIA's) deep dives
  • support for CBC initiatives
  • joining way forward meetings where an EHCNA has been refused, to advise schools on further support for individuals
  • reviewing complaints in respect of EHCP’s and provision
