Children Community Physiotherapy

The Community Paediatric Physiotherapy team are a group of specialist physiotherapists providing assessment and treatment to children and young people aged 0-19 years with complex or long-standing health needs when out of hospital.

The physiotherapists work with children and families to maximise independence and achieve the best physical function. The physiotherapists have expert knowledge in movement, development and conditions that are likely to affect a baby, growing child and adolescent.

All physiotherapists are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

The community paediatric physiotherapy team have access to large treatment spaces and a multi-sensory room at Redgrave children and young people’s centre.
We also work in the special needs schools in Luton and Central Bedfordshire including Lady Zia Wernher School, Woodlands Secondary School and The Chiltern School providing physiotherapy assessments and recommendations for during the school day.
Community paediatric physiotherapists regularly visit nurseries, pre-schools and mainstream school settings to advise and work with educational staff to provide a holistic approach to physiotherapy treatment.

Referral Details

We accept referrals from GP, Consultants, Health Visitors and school nurses. If you have concerns about your child gross motor skills please discuss with a health care provider or call our office for advice 01582 346000.

The Community Paediatric Physiotherapy team have specialist knowledge working with a variety of childhood conditions including:

  • Developmental delay and premature babies
  • Neurological conditions such as Cerebral Palsy
  • Long term conditions that affect physical/respiratory function
  • Neuromuscular conditions
  • Post-surgical rehab and returns to school
  • Oncology
  • Palliative care

The Community Paediatric Physiotherapy team work closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team including doctors, therapists and educational staff to provide children with a comprehensive approach to care.

We aim for physiotherapy to be fun, family-focused and function-driven working towards individualised patient’s goals to improve physical abilities.
