Leighton Buzzard mixed ability rugby

The Mixed Ability rugby team embraces diversity and gives real opportunities, for people of all abilities who are facing a wide range of barriers, to participate and play together whilst empowering themselves. They do this by training in a mainstream club, being equal members, striving to reach personal goals, and challenging stereotypes around the convention of sports and the tradition of separating disabled participants. So whether you wish to get fit, have a recognized condition or just want to play socially this could be the rugby team for you. For some, it’s about learning new skills or being part of a new family, for others it is a chance to demonstrate their sporting know-how and commitment to inclusion It doesn’t matter, we are all coming together to share our love of rugby. LBRFC advocate rugby participation across our club, giving people the opportunity to join in grassroots rugby by promoting inclusion and equality through a sense of belonging and membership of LBRFC. Pippa Bruckland has sixteen years of experience working with people with Autism, learning disabilities, behavioural issues and/or physical disabilities. She played rugby for Olney RFC in her youth and has supported various rugby clubs in various roles over the years. She is supported by Coach Lee Tyas, a LBRFC Senior player and volunteers Richard and Paul.

Do I need to bring anything?

You make like to bring a water bottle and a change of clothes in case you get wet. Can I bring a friend, family member or support worker with me? Everyone is welcome. They can choose to join in, watch on the touchline or sit in our clubhouse while you play.

Am I safe?

Coaches hold RFU qualifications to coach mixed ability rugby. There is a first aider assigned to the group and on hand throughout the training sessions. All coaches have an enhanced DBS check.
