Mencap Bedford

Bedford and District Society for People with Learning Disabilities (or otherwise known as Bedford Mencap) was founded in 1955 and is one of over 500 Mencap groups who work at a local level as the voice of learning disability. Bedford Mencap are affiliated to Royal Mencap, but operate as an independent local registered charity. They work closely with other local groups to ensure people with a learning disability and their families have support and information.

They run and/or actively support a number of local groups including:

  • Smiley Club social club for children and young adults
  • Marlins swimming club for all ages
  • Beds Garden Carers - accessible training and work experience
  • Sparkle Club social club for adults
  • Star Club social club for adults
  • Signpost Volunteers - advice and support for people with learning disabilities and their carers
  • Sound Investment - an integrated community theatre company
